As a 2nd year Business major at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, MKE Fellow Lamont Johnson Jr. serves on the Executive Board of the Finance & Investment Society as the Director of Social Affairs. In 2026, Johnson spearheaded the first student‑led Information Systems Case Competition at the Wisconsin School of Business, an event that brought together 37 participants across 10 teams, all exploring the intersections of Data, Technology, and Insurance.
Flashback to Spring 2025, Johnson undertook an internship with Church Mutual Insurance Company as a Data Analyst. While exploring the experiences and knowledge this role provided, he quickly realized that few opportunities existed for Information Systems students to apply their classroom ideologies and studies to real‑world, industry‑level challenges. That gap needed to be addressed.
With a passion to close this gap, Lamont enlisted the help of Wisconsin School of Business faculty, he studied what made case competitions successful and in turn designed a program to benefit students. With the support of Church Mutual and executives including Pam Stampen, Nick Logan and Ben Buss, Lamont Johnson created a new initiative.
