The power of a single principle can change lives, cross oceans, and inspire breathtaking acts of generosity. For the MKE Fellows program, that guiding light is the belief: "if you want to have much, you have to be prepared for much." This mantra isn't just about career success; it's about cultivating a profound sense of duty and the courage to serve others.
This spirit of excellence and giving back was beautifully demonstrated by John, a faithful member of the MKE Fellows leadership team. Having honed his leadership and organizational skills within the program, John leveraged his experience to achieve something truly extraordinary: extending the reach of Milwaukee-born impact all the way to Kenya. It’s a heartwarming testament to how local development can ignite global change.
The Fellows program, as Michael Hyler passionately emphasizes, focuses heavily on the need for young men to "give back." This commitment is tangibly felt in Milwaukee through seasonal service at places like St. Ben's soup kitchen and the rescue mission. However, this ingrained spirit of volunteerism doesn't end at the city limits.
This deep-seated desire to serve now lives in the hearts of the MKE Fellows team itself. Two of its own, Justin Carr and John Daniels IV, were driven by an unshakeable sense of mission to join a 50-person medical missions team serving in Nairobi, Embu, and Karen, Kenya.
Their journey began with a feverish yet joyful preparation, gathering essential educational resources, clothes, and shoes. The efforts culminated in a truly impactful moment: MKE Fellows was able to provide these collected items to three different orphanages. The items they delivered immense joy to the staff and students, ensuring the young learners could continue their education with necessary tools. During this trip over 2500 individuals recieved much needed medical treatment, students at 5 orphanages were equipped with tangible resources, and 3 schools were provided tools to enhance sound educational advancement.
The MKE Fellows is committed to the enduring partnership of reaching out to others. They are deeply appreciative for these opportunities to serve with the same excellence and dedication that has been shown to them. This journey from a Milwaukee principle to a Kenyan reality is a powerful reminder that true leadership is measured not by what you gain, but by how willingly you give.
