Mission Possible: Building Skills for the Real World

The Milwaukee Fellows stepped into a high-energy professional development session focused on strengthening teamwork, career readiness, and critical thinking skills.

To kick things off, students were divided into small teams and challenged to create a bold, “Mission Impossible”–inspired team name that reflected unity, strategy, and purpose. The room quickly filled with creativity and collaboration as each group established its identity and approach.

From there, teams selected a real-world job description and worked together to determine which member would be the strongest candidate to interview for the role. This exercise encouraged thoughtful peer evaluation, self-awareness, and strategic decision-making as students considered individual strengths and how they aligned with career opportunities.

The next challenge focused on professional image. Teams selected an interview outfit appropriate for their chosen profession, sparking meaningful conversations about first impressions, workplace expectations, and how attire communicates confidence and preparedness.

The session concluded with each team conducting a SWOT analysis—examining their collective strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats based on their overall performance. Students reflected honestly on what they did well, areas for growth, potential opportunities, and external challenges they may encounter in real-world settings.

By blending creativity with practical, real-life application, the session empowered Milwaukee Fellows to approach interviews, professional environments, and team-based challenges with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.
