History Making In Missouri

What an exciting opportunity when you get to be apart of two moments in history in one weekend. Thanks to our Supporters, MKE Fellows journeyed to Kansas City, Missouri to experience a place ”where history touches home.” The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is the only national museum dedicated to the preservation and celebration of African American baseball in the world. Established in 1990 just two blocks from the Passeo YMCA, where Andrew “Rube” Foster, a former player, manager, and owner for the Chicago American Giants. established the Negro National League in 1920.

The NLBM features artifacts, film exhibits, photographs and text panels, integrated with a timeline of baseball and African American history.  Including prominent women in the league, like Mamie “Peanut” Johnson, a Nurse who was considered to be the best of the women.

Just a few miles away, the excitement of the FIFA Fan Festival at the National WWI Museum and Memorial filled the atmosphere. The region’s largest free summer festival showcasing live music, culture and community in the heart of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Fellows experienced their first silent DJ party, a unique event where attendees dance to music transmitted via wireless headphones rather than traditional speakers.

Despite rain delays, the Houston Astros were victorious over the Kansas City Royals edging them out 8 – 7 to finish the night.

Past and present came together to create an historical experience that our MKE Fellows will continue to share with others in the future.
